In 2006, Alzu switched to a new 12 row mielie planting system, with a row width of 76 centimeters.

This new system allows a crop canopy to quickly form, thereby retaining more moisture and ensuring better weed control.

The increase in foliage ensures a greater surface area allowing more exposure to sunlight.

Cultivar trails are also conducted annually on various strains of mielies to determine which strain is most adaptable to the area and will best provide the optimum yield and quality product.
All these crops are managed according to the latest state of the art, precision farming methods.
