ALZU PIG FEEDS |
| |
|
| |
The production aim of any pig producer is to obtain optimum income over feed cost per kg saleble meat at the point of slaughter.
Feeding of the pig can be divided into three categories:
- Feeding of the piglet
- Feeding of the growing pig up to slaughter
- Feeding of the Boar and the Sow
ALZU Pig Feeds is scientifically formulated and balanced to comply with the nutritional needs of the pig.
Don't add any other feed substances as this will disturb the balance of the feed.
Vitamin and mineral premixes is added in all ALZU Pig Feeds.
1. Energy
A pig's energy needs depend on mass, growth rate, milk production and environmental temperature.
Pigs that are being fed ad lib, will under normal circumstances eat to satisfy their energy needs.
Thus they would have a higher intake with diets that have lower energy content and lower intake with diets
that have higher energy content, e.g. maize.
2. Protein
Monogastric animals have a nutritional need for 10 essential amino acids,
especially when they are young and growth of muscle is taking place.
These amino acids are available from good quality protein sources as well as from
synthetic amino acids that can be included in the feed. The first limiting amino acid is
Lysine and second is Methionine. Both amino acids are added synthetically to pig diets.

3. Feeding the young Piglet
During the first 2-3 weeks after birth, the piglet gets most of its nutrition from the sow's milk.
This will help to increase the piglets immunity. Thereafter they can start eating very palatable dry feed to stimulate intake.
When piglets are born, they have very low iron reserves (Fe), it is therefore recommended to give them a Fe injection between 3-7 days of age.
To keep mortalities as low as possible (not higher than 5%), all stress factors must be managed optimally.
ALZU Pig Creep (VK200)
ALZU Pig Creep meal contains milk powder, because the piglet can utilize the lactose and the protein very efficiently.
The maize in the creep ration is cooked; this will improve the digestibility of the monogastric animal.
Feed must always be fresh to maximise the intake.
ALZU Pig Creep is available in meal, 50kg bags
Feeding Guidelines:
Intake must be 1kg per piglet per day until weaning on 28 days old.
Feed the creep ration 1-2 weeks after weaning; change thereafter gradually over from the creep ration to the weaned ration.
Feed ad libitum (don't restrict the intake)
ALZU Pig Weaner (VS180)
The weaner ration will be fed to 20-25kg on 8-10 weeks.
The pig has a great potential to grow during this time.
Feeding guidelines:
Change gradually over from Creep to the Wean ration 1-2 weeks after weaning.
Feed ad lib. Feed intake should be about 2kg per pig per day.
ALZU Pig Wean is available in meal, 50kg bags

4.Feeding the growing pig until marketing
Carcass quality plays an important role in profitable pig production.
Different feeding rations are fed for the various phases during which the pigs are slaughtered
and depending on the markets for which pigs are produced.
From 25-50kg a high quality feed can be given because the growth potential is high.
For porkers (50-70kg) or baconers (70-90kg) a lower quality feed can be given.
ALZU Pig Growth (VG160)
Feeding guidelines:
Change gradually from the weaner ration to the growth ration, approximately 10 weeks after weaning or at 70 days of age.
Feed growth ration until marketing.
Feed ad libitum.
Feed intake should be 4kg per pig per day.
ALZU Pig Concentrate (VK270)
Feeding guidelines:
CPig concentrate is mixed with milled yellow maize to get the same high quality rations as ALZU's complete ration.

5. Feeding the Breeding herd: The pregnant sow and working boar
The most important requirement for caring of the pregnant sow is a complete diet, that will satisfy her higher feeding demand,
without making her to fat. If the sow is to fat, it can lead to complications during farrowing, eg.
Piglets that can't pass through the birth canal.
The working boar must get enough nutrients to be active during mating, but shouldn't get to fat either,
because of a negative influence on his mating ability.
ALZU Dry Sow en Boar (VB150)
Feeding guidelines:
ALZU Dry Sow and Boar can be fed to the dry sow from the beginning of pregnancy up to 1 week before farrowing.
Feed intake should be 2.2-2.5kg per sow per day until 4 weeks before farrowing.
The feed intake should gradually be adjusted to 4kg per day, because of the higher needs of the foetus.
The young boar must be fed ALZU Dry sow and Boar from 2 months before mating (8 months of age).
The growth rate should be 150g/day with a target mass of 175kg.
For the working boar the intake should be 2.2-2.9kg ALZU Dry Sow and Boar meal per day.
ALZU Dry Sow and Boar is available in meal, 50kg bags.

6. Feeding the breeding herd: The lactating sow
During lactation, ALZU Lactating Sow must be fed to ensure that the sow's higher nutrient needs be accommodated,
especially of energy that is used for milk production.
ALZU Lactating Sow (VL160)
Feeding guidelines:
Feed from 1 week before farrowing approximately 2kg per day
The first day of lactation start with 2kg/sow/day; thereafter adjust to 1kg/sow/day, but from day 6 the sow must be fed ad lib.
Keep feeding until the piglets are weaned.
After weaning the feed can be gradually decreased to 2kg per day until the sow is mated again.
ALZU Lactating Sow is available in meal in 50kg bags.
