  • 2. ALZU Horse Feeds

    ALZU Maize Free 12% (MF120)

    ALZU Maize Free 12% ration is formulated for horses and ponies in light work, and for young horses that are being trained.
    ALZU Maize Free has been developed to maintain a calm temperament while providing sufficient nutrients for light work and good condition.
    This feed is also recommended for horses that tend to get muscle dysfunction, like 'tying up' syndrome.

    Feeding guidelines:
    Feed 4-6kg per day depending on the condition of the horse and the workload.
    Good quality hay and/or pasture must be available ad lib.

    ALZU Maize Free 12% is available in meal (40kg bags) or pellets (50kg bags).

    ALZU Riding Horse 10% (RP100)

    ALZU 10% Riding Horse is a very palatable, well balanced diet for horses and ponies.
    This ration is suitable for feeding animals of various sizes in light work and general mild exercise.
    It is also suitable for leisure horses and horses standing in.
    The protein and energy propotion of this ration makes it also good for horses that need to build condition.

    Feeding Guidelines:
    Feed 500g to 750g per 100kg bodyweight, depending on the workload, bodyweight and body condition.
    Good quality hay and/or pasture must be available ad lib.

    ALZU Riding Horse 10% is available in meal or pellets, 50kg bags

    ALZU Preformance Horse 13% (PP130)

    ALZU Performance Horse 13% is blended to ensure high quality and digestibility.
    It is ideal for show jumpers, polo, eveners and endurance horses.
    It is formulated for hard working horses.

    Feeding Guidelines:
    Feed 1.0 to 2.25kg per 100kg bodyweight, depending on the horse's workload, condition, age and temperament
    Good quality hay and/or pasture must be available ad lib.

    Breeding:

    ALZU 13% Performance Horse is also ideal for breeding, the pregnant and lactating mare as well as the stallions at stud

    This ration has been enriched with vitamin A, D and B complex, as well as vitamin E which is directly associated with fertility

    Optimum fertility and balanced feeding are directly connected to each other. This ration is formulated to comply with the higher nutritional needs of the pregnant lactating mare. It will also provide the foul's nutritional needs up to 2 years of age.

    Feeding Guidelines:

    Feeding depend on the quality and quantity of hay and/or pasture available. For a general guideline the following must be fed per day, divided into 2-3 feedings:
    Pregnant mare 4-7kg per day
    Lactating mare 6-8kg per day
    Not pregnant mare 2-4kg per day
    Weaner 2-3kg per day
    Yearling 4-6kg per day
    Working stallion 4-8kg per day


    ALZU Preformance Horse 13% is available as a meal or pellets, 50kg bags.


    ALZU Kentucky 15% (K150)

    Kentucky 15% is a blend of cooked and high quality ingredients to ensure maximum palatability and digestibility.
    This ration provides a high level of digestible energy for sustained performance and strenuous exercise. It is ideal for horses that under go intensive training, doing hard work or take part in competitive activities. The quality protein, vitamin and minerals as well as the balanced energy helps to achieve better performance, stamina and muscle repair.
    Special care has been taken to achieve the correct balance of essential amino acids particularly Lysine and Methionine.
    Due to this the horses will be able to be competitive as well as staying healthy and fit.

    High levels of vitamins, minerals and trace elements are included to give the finest racing diet on the market.

    Feeding Guidelines:

    Feed 6-10 kg per day, depending on the horse's condition and workload.
    Good quality hay and/or pasture must be available ad lib.

    ALZU Kentucky 15% is available as a meal, 50kg bags.


    ALZU Enduro 13% (EP130)

    Enduro 13% is ideal for endurance horses. It includes more fat so that the horse has to take in less feed to obtain enough energy for long endurance distances. Horses are usually kept in stables and are fed a grain based feed with less roughage availability.
    It is very important that the ratio of nutrients to high energy is totally balanced.
    This ration also contains cooked maize to increase its digestibility.

    Feeding Guidelines:

    Feed 4-6 kg per day, depending on condition and workload.
    In special circumstances up to 10 kg can be fed.
    Good quality roughage or pasture must be available ad lib.

    4. Management and Feeding Guidelines

    Divide the daily rations into two to three feedings, if possible.
    Feed every day at the same time.
    Any changes to the diet must be done gradually over a period of days.
    Feed strictly according to weight; volumes can be misleading.
    Enough fresh, clean water must be available at all times.
    Good quality roughage, free of dust and mould and with a lot of leafy material, is the best for your horse.
    Don't exercise the horse just after feeding, wait at least an hour.

    Note: As each horse's feeding requirements are different, the above are just guidelines.
