This is just a guideline. The amount of feed a dog need is dependent on the age of the dog, its activity level, health, reproductive state as well as environmental temperatures.

3. Guidelines for a healthy dog

    1. Feed quality dry dog pellets (without preservatives and colouring).
    2. Determine the dogs weight, as well as the ideal weight if the dog is over or
        under condition.
    3. Determine the dogs activity level.

Use only good quality dog pellets.
Poor quality dog pellets will be more expensive because the dog must eat more to fulfil his/her nutritional requirements. It will also create more waste and it can cause digestive and/or behaviour problems.

Determine the weight and the activity level of the dog, this will help to determine the daily nutritional requirements so that the dog doesn't get under or over fed.

If you want to give your dog snacks, make rather use of the balanced snacks that are available on the market. If you give your dog snacks from the table, make sure it is low in sugar and fat. However, keep in mind that this will learn the dog to beg for something every time you eat.

Weigh your dog once a week or once every two weeks to make sure he and you are on the right path.

When you change from one dry dog pellet product to another, the dog's interflora must adapt to the change. It is important that any changes must take place gradually over a period of 7-10 days. Start with a mixture of 25% of the new feed mixed with 75% of the old feed. Change this ration of the mixture until it is only the new pellets that are fed.
