1. Guidelines

The main aim with finishing of cattle for market is to get as much weight gain as possible in approximately 100 days.
The feed composition is very important, if the energy is too high the cattle will deposit earlier fat before enough weight is gained. If the ration contains not enough energy the cattle will keep on growing with very late fat deposit that is not economical.
It is essencial to plan thoroughly before you start. Decide on the type of animal that will be fed - breed, gender and age.
Most of all is economic the most important factor of all.
Price Margin: Calculate the purchase price and estimate sellable price
Feed Margin: The feed cost and feed conversion (average daily gain) must be calculated.


2. Processing

  • Weigh, mark en group the animals:

    •      - Sizes
         - Age
         - Gender
         - Horns and no horns
  • Castrate if necessary

  • De-horn - Prevent bruising

  • Treat for internal and external parasites

  • Dip and inject against ticks

  • Vaccinate animals against: Botulism, Anthrax, Lameness, Pasteurella

  • Inject Vitamins: Only A and E (work actively on membranes, better rumen activity
        less diseases)

  • Implant with anabolic growth stimulant. Ionophore or metabolic growth stimulant is
        already included in ALZU's Cattle finisher rations.


    • NB! Make sure that there is always clean, fresh feed and water available ad lib.

    3. Mangers and Floor

    Manger Cattle 300-400mm per animal
         
    Floor (Standing space) Cattle 8-10 m2


    4. ALZU Cattle Finisher

    Complete Cattle Finisher (CF130)

    Complete Cattle Finisher must be fed together with roughage.
    Animals must have good quality hay as well as complete cattle finisher available ad lib.
    Make sure that always fresh and clean water is available.
    If cattle weigh less than 180kg, they must be kept on the natural grazing until body weight is put on.
    Zebu-types (Brahman, Afrikaner) Start with 25% roughage
    Bos Indicus Start with 20% roughage


    Cattle Finisher Concentrate (Vetmix 30)

    Cattle finisher concentrate can be mixed with maize to get the same high quality product as the complete cattle finisher.

    Adjust the animals gradually to the feed, and feed ad lib.
    Maize must be rolled or ground to a meal. Under no circumstances must whole maize be fed.
    This feed contain an ionophore.
